Luke Davids is a London-born singer-songwriter with piano-based songs and inventive arrangements that evoke the refined hooks of The Beatles, Elvis Costello and Ben Folds Five. His music is described as “sharp, accessibly sophisticated, and refreshingly sincere.”
Ryan Koriya is a British-Zimbabwean singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist. He hopes his self-produced dance/pop/rock tracks will be driving hearts and making heads bop across the globe.
Galena, Alaska, a remote village on the Yukon River might seem an unlikely locale for a singer-songwriter with an active touring and recording career. Karrie Pavish Anderson flourishes in this remote locale accessible only by plane, an indigenous Athabascan community where resilience and fortitude are rooted in the frozen darkness of winter and the glorious arrival of the midnight sun.
Within the last few years, Alyse Black has skyrocketed from singing on the streets of Pike Place Market to playing some of the most prestigious theaters in Austin and Seattle, performing on Seattle’s NPR station, recording a commercial for Target, and touring the country playing over 600 clubs, theaters, festivals, television shows and radio stations. She is currently her re-debut solo album with producer Mark Hallman (Carol King, Ani Difranco, Brandi Carlile).
The music business is constantly changing but in some respects it still clings to decades-old products and business models. In this series we begin a discussion on changing the status quo in the music business, particularly in the products we offer and the fan-artist relationship. Sonic Avalanche is part of the Full Touch Media family of arts and entertainment sites. We see similar challenges and opportunities all across the arts and entertainment spectrum. But the music business faces its own set of unique and substantial challenges.
At the core of these challenges is a pervasive mindset that recordings no longer have an intrinsic value to the consumer. Adding to this perception is the merging of sales and distribution channels dominated by a few technology companies. Artists, labels and publishers have become subordinated by these companies and forced to accept "take it or leave it" revenue models that by design reinforce the low value perception that has spread over the music industry like a virus...
